John Plastow will be the next Interim Executive Director of Frontline AIDS for a period of 12 months. He will begin the role in April.

John Plastow brings extensive international experience of leading and managing change in challenging contexts. He has held senior roles with several major international NGOs, including at Oxfam International and CARE International UK.

“I am really excited to be joining Frontline AIDS, the world’s largest partnership of civil society organisations working to end HIV and AIDS.”

John was previously Oxfam International’s Interim Global Programmes Director and Oxfam Great Britain’s Chief of Impact prior to that. At CARE International UK, he was the Programme and Policy Director for over 8 years. Most recently, John has been providing support to Oxfam International and Oxfam Ireland on a strategy roll out.

Throughout his career John has worked to champion a rights agenda in solidarity with marginalised communities and progressive civil society organisations. This has included close active engagement on rights for people living with HIV in different roles in sub-Saharan Africa. He has worked across many parts of Africa, Asia, the Middle East and Europe.

“I am looking forward to working with Frontline AIDS to help oversee its transformational agenda,” John said. “At a time when we are witnessing an erosion of the rights of communities living with or most affected by HIV, its advocacy with its global network of partners is particularly crucial.”

“The Board is delighted that we have found the right leader for Frontline AIDS,” Nana Poku, chair of Trustees, said. “The Board is very much looking forward to working with John over the coming year to help Frontline AIDS continue delivering on its Global Plan of Action, and its vital work shaping the future of the HIV response to create a future free from AIDS.”
