This case study examines the relevance and impact of the Rapid Response Fund in Kenya to help assess whether future in-country emergency response funds in Kenya and elsewhere are viable. It reviews the context of responses to sexual and gender-based violence in Kenya, grant holders’ experience of accessing the Rapid Response Fund, and what marginalised communities need to be able to effectively prevent and respond to gender-based rights violations. It also provides recommendations for adapting the Rapid Response Fund to a de-centralised, in-country emergency response mechanism.
