Nadoum: Together for Change – Sustaining HIV services in MENA

Nadoum aims to accelerate action to sustain and improve HIV services for people who are most vulnerable to HIV in Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco and Tunisia.

Our programme, ‘Nadoum: Together for change – Sustaining services in MENA’, supported by the Global Fund, aims to accelerate action to sustain and improve HIV services for people who are most vulnerable to HIV in Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco and Tunisia.

WHY THE PROGRAMME IS NEEDED

Although MENA (Middle East North Africa) has the lowest number of people living with HIV compared to other regions, it also the region showing the fastest increase of HIV in the world. HIV testing and treatment coverage in MENA (43%) is far below the global average, and this poor access mainly affects marginalised communities, especially those that are subject to criminalisation and discrimination.

The Nadoum programme aims to reduce human rights-related barriers to HIV services, including testing, treatment and care, promote social mobilisation, build community linkages, collaboration and coordination, and increase political engagement to strengthen national health strategies.

WHAT THE PROGRAMME IS DOING

Partners in Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco, and Tunisia will support organisations and communities to work with the most marginalised populations by:

  • Working with key stakeholders to tackle stigma, discrimination and criminalisation of people based on sexual orientation and gender identity.
  • Understanding that respect for human rights including changing laws and policy is key for removing barriers to HIV services.
